We met Peter Hemmelskamp in 1994 at his parents’ farm, where we leased a stable to accommodate our horses. He often dropped by for a coffee and a chat. Peter liked to laugh and talked a lot about his travels and his art, his disinterest in the conventional lifestyle soon became obvious. We had conversations about life, love, art, country and people and even though we did not always agree and our views of life were very different, Peter was an intense conversational partner and was of a superior persuasiveness which was fed not only by his rhetorical skills but also by his deep beliefs and his humanity. We already bought some of his paintings back then to support him. Later on, we discovered his bequest stored away at his parents’ farm.

Peter created many paintings, a crime novel, a travel report and much more. His bequest is larger than we had expected. The paintings certainly are of varying quality but we are sure about one thing – the world needs to see this.

For the 10th anniversary of the death of Peter Hemmelskamp on 27th March 2016
